I’ve never been a big fan of spicy food. I’ve always felt like too much spiciness takes away the actual flavor of the food I’m eating, all I can taste is that burning sensation in my mouth, blocking out everything else.
I do have a few foods on my spicy white list though, and all of them are Asian food, and what tops of the list of two items is: wasabi.
So wasabi is from Japan right, and I love Japanese food, so much that I’ll actually make an exception when a new spicy Japanese food comes around, even if it’s not the same kind of spiciness wasabi gives me.
Enter Tokyo Tokyo’s Red Togarashi Tempura – but wait, before we delve into this fiery new dish let’s acknowledge the fact of how Tokyo Tokyo is continuously serving us these innovative new dishes these past seasons. Japanese food itself is yummy and awesome as is, but Tokyo Tokyo has been really making it fresh and even more interesting with their fusion dishes. It’s unique, it’s out of the box, and more importantly, it’s actually really good. Let’s face it you guys, if you want quick, cheap, Japanese food that’s worth every peso, Tokyo Tokyo’s the place to be. I always find myself reaching for their Makiritto (Maki + Burrito, it’s genius) and now here they are again with another twist on our favorite Japanese food.
The Red Togarashi Tempura is a bright red, fiercely spicy cousin of our good ‘ole classic tempura. What makes it spicy is the togarashi – a blend of Japanese chili peppers. I ate one piece of tempura with a lot of sprinkles in it and I was pretty close to breathing fire, just like in those cartoons we watch, yes.
The bento meal that includes three pieces of tempura, vegetable misono, tempura sauce, and rice is priced at 175 Php. If you’re gonna eat inside the store, you can enjoy unlimited rice with that too. If you just want the tempura, don’t worry, Tokyo Tokyo’s got you. You can opt for a 4-piece or 6-piece tempura platters with any combination of classic and red tempura.
I know a lot of people who really enjoy super spicy food, and I know that you’ll enjoy this. I swear.
